For ZX exist old interface "KEYBOARD PROFACE" that support switching between two different layouts (ZX layout / PC layout). Function keys are programmable and cursor keys be switched between ZX cursor/sinclair joystick.
I also have old firmware with support layout of keyboards from russian ZX clones. This layout is very good and is supported in russian software (page up/page down/home/end/win/etc...) All this non ZX keys are used as combination of two different keys (ss+key or caps shift+key). We can use this keys in tr-dos commanders, editors, copiers, etc... ESXDOS system support TR-DOS and software for tr-dos support this keyboard layout. All this software can be used also with standard ZX keys, but russian additional keys are used for better comfort. I mean, UNREAL SPECCY emulator support this layouts (see config file).

Here is one of ideal layouts:

I had one. Bought it from Sintech and replaced the AT connector with a PS/2 connector. I don't remember being able to switch between cursor and joystick. But I do remember that it could do strings of key presses, such as EXTEND and then a key. I guess it was more complex and thus more expensive than what's being done with ZX-Uno.

For the Chloe 280SE layout I've kept the same mapping as the ProFace for Insert ( <> ), Home ( <= ), End ( >= ), Page Up (True Video), and Page Down (Inverse Video). The only difference is Insert (AT instead of GRAPH).

I imagine it would be relatively trivial to patch a TR-DOS commander to use SYM+I in place of SHIFT+9.

Unfortunately you can't use that layout with ZX-Uno as it can't store strings of key presses and it can't use the Windows or Menu keys. The only way you can get all of the symbols is by using SE Basic (which maps them all to SYM+key without using EXTEND mode).

Yes, I like. The only problem is that all keys are shifted to the right, so it's a bit confused to write in a keyboard without labels. But It's good.

Yes, that's. Keyboard driver is simple so you can sequence keys. But you can use Windows or Menu keys, the scan codes are extended like the cursors:

The problem is that the function should not be important because there will be people with older keyboards without these keys.

In that case I'm going to change the layout to assign something to those keys.

Edit: Ok. Done it:

Imagen

CAPS LOCK = SHIFT + 2
CONTROL = SHIFT + 9
ALTERNATE = SHIFT + SYMBOL
@ = SYMBOL
FUNCTION = toggle Kempston ON/OFF
when Kempston is on CONTROL becomes FIRE and the cursor keys are directions.

Not too big a change I hope. Everything else stays the same

As the Windows and Menu keys can be mapped, I've updated the plus keyboard to show what it could look like on the Vortex Poker II.

The trouble is there's actually no space around the keys on the Vortex Poker II for the color swish to go on, although I guess you could add it to the front of the case. It is PS/2 compatible though.

You could use printed labels or you could order a custom set of keycaps from WASD keyboards.

I've slightly updated the design again.

Imagen

I've added only two keys to the design ... a separate asterisk key ( * ) on the top row, and a duplicate DELETE key next to the cursors. The advantage of this arrangement is that the cursors and delete can be used as a substitute for the Cursor joystick.

It's just to be a "purist", I would be better to use a non-used key (below the "break" key, top right)and put the 4-band colored logo, or If anybody wants, a mini-logo of zx-uno in BW, It's maybe nostalgia, but If it's added I would be perfect for me.

2ª actualizacion, montaje chufletero del logo sobre la tecla en cuestion:

Yo no lo pegaría ahí, pero no importa, lo bueno que tienen las pegatinas es que puedes ponerlas donde quieras.

Volver a “Sinclair/Spectrum”
